The workshop was held on 21/22 October 2021 as part of the soft-skill program offered within the Jena Alliance Life in Focus - A Carl Zeiss Foundation ProjectExternal link.

Goal of the workshop

is the discussion and exemplary testing of central interdisciplinary competencies. The participants should be able to develop their own ideas, in which form and with which content they can and want to work in interdisciplinary contexts - within the framework of the Jena Alliance and beyond.

Implementation

Day 1: Basics of interdisciplinary communication and cooperation

  • Various forms of interdisciplinary cooperation
  • Appreciative communication
  • Relevant rules and structures of the science system
  • Project planning and management

Day 2: Interdisciplinary differences and similarities

  • Subject cultures: What distinguishes them? What significance do you have for interdisciplinary cooperation?
  • Research processes in different disciplines: What differences play a role (regarding questions, methods, research results, etc.)? What is the same or similar? How can the differences be made productive for working together?
  • Exploring cooperation opportunities within the Jena Alliance

 

Coach profile of Dr. Matthias Zach

Scientific training in Oxford, Paris and Tübingen; then worked for many years in research, teaching and science management at universities in Great Britain, France and Germany and as a freelance translator; Focus of career advice for academics: Scientific work (planning and implementation of research projects, writing and argumentation, communication, etc.), national and international careers of scientists, application processes on the academic and non-academic job market.
